Greetings !
You may notice that we are incorporating more fluid, watery movements into our yoga practicesthis summer including moving in a mandala (circle) around the mat,a signature of Shiva Rea’s Prana Flow® yoga. As we are a Prana Flow® affiliate studio we always encourage and invite ways of connecting and releasing in the flow but you may notice us even more fluid practices now that we are in the heat of the summer. This doesn’t mean that your practice is any less challenging but it is a tremendous way to counter the heating and drying effects of the 100 degree days of summer.

What exactly is Prana Flow® Yoga and how is it different from other forms of vinyasa yoga?
Prana – “life force creation”
Flow – the state of unified consciousness
Prana Flow® is an energetic, creative, full-spectrum approach to embodying the flow of yoga created by Shiva Rea. Students of all levels are empowered to experience prana – the universal source of breath, life energy and conscious intelligence as the navigating source of yoga practice and vital living.
Summer is about letting go & freedom as we break away from our normal routines. Want even more freedom & fun in your practice? Try Kristen’s Yoga Groove Class on Friday’s 5:30 pm!
Namaste,
The Ananda Shala Tribe

How long have you been practicing yoga or pilates, and what inspired you to become a teacher?
I began yoga as a freshman in college as part of a “stress management” unit in a health class. As an injured figure skater at the time, yoga was the most refreshing experience I had had in conditioning my body in months. The full-spectrum healing that yoga offered inspired me to want to share this amazing practice with everyone. While my own transformational experience with yoga fueled my eagerness to learn, I was also really blessed with the opportunity to learn from some amazing teachers who are strong, powerful women and positive role models within their communities, and they inspire me to continue my own journey as a yoga teacher, fire-tender and wave-rider.
Where did you study to become a yoga or pilates teacher and what additional training have you received?
My training in teaching yoga has come through Shiva Rea’s Samudra Global School for Living Yoga and through the mentorship of Prana Flow® senior teacher Maria Garre.
What do you like to do with your time off the mat?
Time off the mat is dedicated to serving the shakti and raising the collective vibration by my “behind the scenes” assistance to global yogini and sacred activist Shiva Rea; studying the amazing lives of honey bees; and teaching figure skating.
What do you want your students to take away from you class? How were you influenced as a student by one of your teachers?
I hope to offer anyone who comes to my class a sense of inner balance, clarity, strength and compassion, as well as practical physical strength and flexibility to serve their lives. I cannot justifiably attribute my knowledge or understanding or influence to a single teacher. I can say that from them collectively, I’ve come to understand full-spectrum living, the power of presence, and the transformation that happens by living love.
