New Year Greetings !
On this rainy, misty, full moon night we welcome the first weeks of the year. This month we initiate great change and hope as we are 9 monumental days away from inaugurating President-elect Barack Obama. After spending the day in Washington DC and witnessing the transformation, enthusiasm and energy this city is filled with, we can only prosper from what is building just 40 miles South of us. So this month is filled with celebration and initiation. Each weekend this month offers the Frederick community events to inspire and rejuvenate!

We look forward to serving you in the year to come as we build community together – the time has come and the message is clear – unite for change ! This is Yoga in all it’s forms: the Yoga of action, devotion, wisdom, practice, and vibration.

Beat the Winter Sniffles with Simple Ayurvedic Remedies
Winter season can often lead to the common cold complaints of runny or stuffy nose, congestion in our lungs, coughing, headaches the like. However, there are ways to avoid and/or help yourself should these symptoms arise. According to Ayurveda this the Vata-Kapha time of year in which the cold, dry, or moist climate can generate the same conditions inside our body causing the above symptoms. Therefore, Ayurveda recommends that we eat warm foods, get plenty of rest and do daily neti pot and nasya (oil in the nose), along with plenty of oil application to the whole body. If you have any symptoms it is generally best to avoid heavy foods, dairy and sweets as all these foods willl aggravate your condition. Stay tuned for more Ayurvedic tips and Ayuveda 101 starting again soon !

COMING THIS MONTH !
We are elated to announce our new Mind-Body software system that will not only change and update our front desk but also allow you to register online for classes and workshops and also access all changes and subs to our schedule. We have been working out the kinks and uploading for over a month. This new system will allow us to offer you the best the industry has to offer in yoga studio client services.

Pincha Mayurasana
We delve into all variations and aspects of Pincha Mayurasana in our level 2/3 classes in January and February. This asana has the qualities of an inversion as well as an arm balance requiring upper body strength and a strong action in the legs as they are inverted and reaching toward the sky. Preparatory asanas for this include those that will strengthen the upper body and inner thighs and also open up the front of the body such as the hip flexors and thighs. We will enjoy partner work and wall work in preparation and some of us continuing on the variations in the balance and shifting to other asanas.
