Heart Fire: Tending the Flame of Your Sva Shakti
The time has come to turn your heart into a temple of fire. -Rumi

Join a celebratory series igniting the sacred heart fire of our sva shakti – core essence of the Self as expressed uniquely through your vital energy. This experiential 3-class cycle will integrate the living yoga sadhana (practices) to tend your heart fire authentically as the center of one’s creativity, vision, inspiration, wisdom and most of all transforming power of love. Together we will explore:

* The universal and ancient understanding of our heart center from tantra, hatha, and bhakti yoga, integrated with the latest view of our heart’s intelligence
* Vinyasa Flow sequences that awaken the body mandala and heart temple by expanding the range of motion and circulation of the outer house of our heart with the inner space of anahata (heart) chakra
* Integration of tantric hatha yoga techniques of pranayama, sound, visualization, and bhava (feeling states) in asana
* Tending the fire of the sva shakti through meditation and chanting, and releasing the rasa, or “liquid love” of the heart
* Healing emotions or energy in motion through meditations and kriyas (rythmic movement)
* Symbolic wisdom, metaphor, and poetry of the heart from yogic texts

Each practice will include dynamic and meditative vinyasa flow sequences, and can be applied toward Shiva’s 500-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Program. Classes may be taken individually, or together as a three-part series.

Kalari Yoga

October 2, 2008 · Filed Under Archives · Comment

Kalari Yoga is a mystical tantric form of Yoga which cannot be separated from Kalarippayat, the martial art form. According to legend its purpose was to combine the advantages of Hatha Yoga with those of Kalarippayat to enhance the physical and spiritual growth of the Kalari-warriors of medieval Kerala.
